Patek Philippe ref. 5396R-015 with Blue Dial and Baguette Diamond Markers. Live Pictures, Hands-on & Price.

While we are not crazy about diamonds on men’s Watches Replica Replica here at WCL, when it comes to Patek Philippe it is a different story. After the release of the ref. 5396G-014 last year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this reference, this year at Baselworld 2017, Patek released two new versions of the reference 5396 in 18K rose gold with blue dial. While the new ref. 5396R-014 sports a blue dial with gold markers, the ref. 5396R-015 we have here, comes with the same hue of blue as ref. 5396R-014 but with baguette diamond markers.

The Dial

Featuring an in-line double aperture in the upper half of the dial that displays the day of the week on the left and the month on the right, the date display on the ref. 5396 is positioned in a large aperture at 6 o’clock. Together with the double aperture, it frames the 24 hour subsidiary dial with the moon phase display in the lower half of the dial to assure a visually balanced configuration. This layout is reminiscent of Patek Philippe perpetual calendars from the 1940s and 1950s, which regularly fetch top prices at auction. The main difference between the new ref. 5396G-014 and its predecessors is that the position of the analog date scale in the historic models is now occupied by the 24-hour indicator which doubles as a day/night indication.

The Movement

The beating heart powering the new Patek Philippe ref. 5396R-015 is the automatic movement calibre 324 S QA LU 24H/303. This movement composed of 347 parts and 34 jewels provides a power reserve of 45 hours while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph. Additionally, the date and month indications only need to be manually corrected once a year at the transition from February to March, but this task takes only seconds, thanks to the small correctors in the caseband. The moon phase display requires even less attention. Thanks to its precise reduction wheel train, an adjustment by one day is needed only once every 122 years. This deviation is irrelevant in the course of a generation. But it does suggest h ow meticulously the movement was crafted.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the new Patek Philippe ref. 5396R-015 wears slightly bigger than its actual 38.5 mm size and more like a 39 mm Watch Replica. The Watch Replica is fitted with a gorgeous dark blue hand-stitched alligator strap with square scales and Calatrava fold-over clasp in 18K rose gold. As far as looks and wrist presence, you can’t go wrong. While the diamond markers seem quite prominent on these pictures, they are not as much in the metal. Definitely a must have in any well-curated Patek collection.

Other than being the ultimate horological complication, the use of Minute Repeaters helped people before electrical power was available to tell time in the middle of the night without having to light up a candle and risking setting their homes on fire.

As it is the norm at Patek, the platinum references include a legendary flawless Top Wesselton diamond on the case at 6 o’clock.

The Movement

The beating heart inside the legendary  replica Patek Philippe ref. 5078P and 5078R is the automatic Patek calibre R 27 PS with Minute Repeater. This elaborate automatic movement is equipped with two gongs, a micro-rotor with à grains d’orge —barleycorn— guilloché motif and 39 jewels. The movement beats at a frequency of 21,600 vph to provide a power reserve of 48 hours maximum. Hands-on With Patek Philippe Reference 5975 Multi-Scale Chronograph

Patek Philippe 5975 1 - Perpetuelle

It should come as no surprise that Patek Philippe, one of the world’s premiere Watch Replica makers, cleverly devised a line of timepieces to commemorate its 175th anniversary as a company. Four limited edition models, in an assortment of precious metals, sizes, and designs, celebrated the occasion—the 5575 (the 7175 being the ladies’ variant), 5975 (the 4675 being the ladies’ variant), 5275, and the astonishing 5175. But the cleanest and most restrained of the bunch is undeniably the 5975, a chronograph that functions differently from what one would expect of the complication.

Patek Philippe 5975 4 - Perpetuelle

A brief breakdown of each scale:

Pulsimeter: taken directly from Patek’s press release: “medical heart rate measurements are expressed as the number of pulses per minute. To accelerate such measurements without having to wait for an entire minute while counting, the Multi-Scale Chronograph has a pulsimeter scale calibrated to 15 heartbeats (GRADUE POUR 15 PULSATIONS). If the Multi-Scale Chronograph is started when the first pulse is felt and stopped on the fifteenth, the pulsimeter scale display the number of pulses per minute. During their daily rounds in the wards, physicians once typically had to take the pulse of over a hundred patients. A pulsimeter Watch Replica saved them more than an hour a day.”

More specifically, the 5975 features a seldom-seen layout in which the chronograph hand measures heart rate, distance from a stationary object, and speed over an established radius as it traverses the dial. Pulsimeter, telemeter, and tachymeter scales crowd the face, but with a bit of brain power and a penchant for pre-digital age means of making measurements, ease of use is high and never an eye sore during daily wear.

Telemeter: in the case of most Watches Replica Replica utilizing a telemeter scale, distance from an object is measured in kilometers. The scale’s importance in military history is dually noted, as it was especially useful in determining the range between a gun and its target.

Tachymeter: the most common scale on chronographs. Calculates distance based on speed or speed based on a set amount of time.

Patek 5975 Dial Close Up - Perpetuelle

Patek Philippe 5975 - Perpetuelle

Aesthetically, the 5975’s 40mm case falls in line with that mindset, too, being relatively simple aside from finely sculpted lugs that are detachable come service time. Even after a studious look at the overall package, one would be hard pressed to notice such a subtle detail—the fit is exceptionally tight and not unlike what Rolex has achieved in recent years with their cases and bracelets. But know that Patek is not Rolex and quiet brushing lining the sides of the pushers, for instance, elevates the 5975 into an entirely different class. And that’s only one example of its prowess.

In terms of construction, the 5975’s dial appears relatively basic at first glance, which looks out of place, given its hefty asking price. Until light reflects from the surface at a variety of angles—which reveals a glowing, three-dimensional hue, perfectly chamfered indices, and beveled dauphine hands—it seems like one of 5975’s weakest points. But perhaps that’s exactly as Patek intended—the face effortlessly captures the spirit of a vintage Watch Replica , and meticulously crafted details only present themselves under close, and careful, inspection. Think of the 5975 as a Watch Replica for those who prefer to live their lives under the radar, with none of the flashy glitz commonly associated with timepieces commanding astronomical prices.

Powering the 5975 is Patek’s proprietary caliber CH 28-520, which is an automatic movement, as opposed to a more appropriate manual wind that typically coincides with the company’s chronographs. Featuring a solid gold rotor, column wheel, vertical clutch, and 55 hours of power reserve, the movement comes in at 5.2mm in height, making the Watch Replica 10.25mm thick—extraordinarily thin for a contemporary chronograph. Patek’s quality seal also adorns the movement meaning a very high level of finish and accuracy—the 5975 is rated at -3/+2 seconds a day, even with the chronograph running.

Patek Philippe 5975 Case Back 2 - Perpetuelle

But therein lies an issue: to maintain the Watch Replica ’s thin profile, Patek chose to keep the 5975’s movement behind a closed back and a commemorative engraving. Reading “Patek Philippe Geneve 175e Anniversaire 1839-2014,” first impressions paint the presentation a bit of a letdown, but it suddenly makes sense, if only for the fact that the company is able to craft their products as they please and Watch Replica collectors eagerly line up for their next purchase. And, honestly, that speaks volumes of Patek’s reputation in the Watch Replica world, given that rarely do any of their products flop. A buyer always exists for the newest limited production Patek, no matter the amount of quirks, cost, or aesthetic.

Patek Philippe 5975 Presentation Box Top - Perpetuelle

Included with the 5975 is a luxurious wood presentation box, celebrating Patek Philippe’s 175th anniversary. Particularly noteworthy is the commemorative inscription.

Patek Philippe 5975 Presentation Box 3 - PerpetuelleBreakdown of the 5975 model lineage (5975G seen in the article):

The verdict: there’s no doubt that Patek Philippe has worked hard to earn the status it enjoys today, and the 5975, along with the rest of the 175th anniversary collection, is proof of that. As expected, none of these Watches Replica Replica is perfect, and in the case of the 5975, its biggest setback is a lack of a display back and perhaps that the dial doesn’t jump out at you at first glance. A closer look, however, renders those thoughts obsolete—the 5975 is a stunning piece—aesthetically and technically—capable of captivating lucky collectors for years to come. Bravo, Patek Philippe. Bravo.

Meet The Unique Titanium Patek Philippe Watches Replica

Patek 5712T titanium Watch Replica

It began almost five years ago, when I discovered a titanium Patek Ref 5180T and titanium Patek Ref 6000T.  The first and only titanium-cased Patek Philippe’s I had ever heard of, noted also by its reference number with the “T” at the end.  After doing some quick background work, I profiled these two pieces for Perpetuelle readers in my article “Two Titanium Patek Philippe’s You Didn’t Know Existed” (November 19, 2009).

Further, each of these ten pieces I believe to be a unique piece.  But there could be more.  And so to this question of how many titanium Patek Philippe’s exist, the one answer that I can state as undoubtedly accurate today is this:  very few.   Likely only Patek Philippe knows the true number. Let’s take a closer look at our exclusive list of Titanium Patek Philippe Watches Replica Replica you’ve likely never seen, until now…

Of course the first and best place to search for the answer to such a question is Patek itself.  So late last November — roughtly five years after the Ref 5180T and Ref 6000T seeded the question in my head– I contacted Patek Philippe to get an answer.  Patek revealed to me that only four such titanium Patek Philippe references exist, all unique pieces, all done to support either Children Action (a Geneva-based charitable organization) or Only Watch (a biennial Geneva-based charitable Watch Replica auction).

It got me to wondering — just how many pieces has Patek Philippe cased in titanium?  Turns out it’s a good question.  After researching the matter a bit I still do not know the precise answer.  However, I have compiled what I believe is the only comprehensive list of titanium Patek Philippe wristwatches known to exist today — and there are ten of them, including the Patek Philippe “The Flawless Officer” (Ref 3928T) with a 9.44 carat D-flawless diamond-set caseback (!!).

So there you have it.  The definitive list of titanium Patek Philippe Watches Replica Replica.  Right?  Wrong.  In fact this is far from the end of the story.  Read on for more, after a look at these four titanium references:

Patek Philippe Ref. 5712T titanium – made for Only Watch 2007

So as I say this is definitely not the end of the story nor the list — and I’ll tell you why:  in my research to find out how many titanium Patek Philippe Watches Replica Replica really exist, I had also heard from that there were other titanium Pateks that existed — one-off commissions for valued clients.  And thus perhaps the existence of which Patek would prefer not to disclose.  Well, the existence of at least some of these references is now official, thanks to Sotheby’s, which is set to sell six exclusive titanium Patek’s at its June 10, 2014 on the Sotheby’s Important Watches Replica” auction in New York.  This list includes the following:

We know with certainty that the pieces for Only Watch and Children Action are unique; it is also almost certain that the above titanium references are also unique pieces.  It would be highly unusual, though I suppose possible, for Patek to agree to commission more than one of each of these.

Are there other titanium Patek’s out there?  Possibly.  But aside from publicized pieces such as those for Only Watch and (much-lesser-publicized) Children Action, commissioned Patek’s will only make themselves known when they come to auction.  If you are aware of other such pieces, please let me know.

And there you have it – Perpetuelle’s exlusive list of elusive Patek Philippe references.   A list of eight Patek Philippe wristwatches, cased in titanium, all believe to be one-of-a-kind and the existence of which has remained largely unknown until now.  Of course a unique pieces is a unique piece — but a unique piece Patek Philippe cased in titanium?  Now that’s something special.

Introducing Patek Philippe Saga Resurrected

It started in June 2010 with a Patek Philippe Ref. 1463 Watch Replica to be auctioned by Christie’s — the Watch Replica was purportedly of great provenance, a gift to a Mr. Donald Woolbright from the late billionaire, investor, aviator, & film producer-turned philanthropist Howard Hughes.  What a Watch Replica to own, eh?!  Christie’s was certainly not shy in playing up the Howard Hughes connection of the Watch Replica .  Naturally, I featured the Watch Replica on Perpetuelle on June 3, 2010, expressing admiration for Hughes and excitement for the auction.  Not so fast, though — an unsolicited and completely out-of-the-blue comment by one Paul B. Winn on my article Howard Hughes Patek Philippe Ref. 1463 Up At Auction turned my world upside down and launched a tantalizing story of mystery, stonewalling and deceit.  It unfolded over the next two weeks on Heuer Replica Watches

In the latest edition of FORBES magazine, widely-published Watch Replica journalist Jack Forster, in his multi-faceted article Time Bandits (pages 156-160 of the May 7, 2012 issue), resurrects the story of the now famous “Howard Hughes” Patek Philippe Watch Replica which sold at auction in June 2010 for $254,500.  Unfortunately (though unintentionally), Perpetuelle was not credited for the brief mention that the story received in FORBES. Yes, while “famous” is perhaps a bit strong to describe the notoriety of this event, the Curious Case of the “Howard Hughes” Patek Philippe was a story that originated here at, and for those of you who missed it the first time around, follow me now as I recount the saga.  This is one interesting story!

You see, Paul B. Winn, as I soon learned, was a former personal secretary to Howard Hughes — one of the rare men in the notoriously secretive Hughes’ “inner circle” on a day-to-day basis.  In his comment on, Winn was highly skeptical that the Watch Replica (nay, any Watch Replica ) was in fact gifted to Woolbright by Hughes.  Upon receiving Winn’s comment (you can read his remarks here), I exchanged emails with, and then proceeded to speak at length with him.

My investigative research revealed that Donald Woolbright, among other things, was a street-hustler with 26 arrests on charges ranging from burglary to fencing and assault to carrying a concealed weapon.  He had only a faint (and unseemly) connection to Howard Hughes.  Indeed, Woolbright’s only documented connection to Howard Hughes was for his involvement in “Hughesgate” which resulted in Woolbright’s indictment for receiving stolen property and attempting to extort a $1 million ransom for papers that were stolen from Hughes’ Romain Street offices.  Clearly a man whose credibility could be considered lacking.  And certainly not the type of person upon whom Howard Hughes would bestow a Patek Philippe Watch Replica .  At least that’s the only logical conclusion that I could arrive at.

Based upon these conversations and my further investigation of Donald Woolbright (who I learned had recently passed away), I was increasingly convinced that Paul Winn, a man who I could see having no horse in this race, was right — the Patek Philippe Ref 1463 was NOT gifted by Howard Hughes to Donald Woolbright.  Empowered by the facts of my investigation, I was determined to bring the truth into the light.  I was confident that Christie’s would act honorably and pull the Watch Replica from the auction lineup.  I was wrong — dead wrong.

With this information in hand, my next call was to Christie’s auction house.  Upon my inquiry as to the provenance of the Watch Replica , my suspicion was even further heightened.   It was clear that I caught Christie’s flat-footed.  Once Christie’s learned I was questioning the provenance of the Watch Replica , they began to stonewall.  First, the Watch Replica department passed me to the press department.  Then, days later, a terse statement was issued (…the auction will go on!).  Unwilling to back down given the litany of information in support of my case, I persisted.  Still, Christie’s press representatives refused to return my repeated phone calls — even though they were fully aware that I had raised serious, legitimate doubts as to the provenance of their “Howard Hughes” Watch Replica .

Undeterred, I decided to publish an Open Letter to the Christie’s Watch and Press Department, just one day before the Watch Replica was to be sold at auction.  Clearly, my message was that Christie’s should pull the Watch Replica from the auction, pending further research given the Patek’s dubious and undocumented association.  Alas I was not persuasive enough.  Nor did the public support of Geoff Schumacher — Las Vegas writer, author of “Howard Hughes: Power, Paranoia & Palace Intrigue” (Stephens Press, 2008) and proprietor of The Howard Hughes Blog — bear any credence with Christie’s.

Far from asking for the world, I had only a few simple questions which would easily put the dubious story of the Watch Replica to rest.  Who told Christie’s the story of Donald Woolbright and this Watch Replica ? Did Christie’s independently corroborate this story (i.e. that the Watch Replica was given by Hughes to Woolbright)? Is there any tangible/physical evidence to support the notion that this Watch Replica has any association with Howard Hughes (e.g. the handwritten note)? If so, has the authenticity of the tangible/physical items been corroborated?  Either willfully ignorant or completely clueless, it did not look good for Christie’s.

On June 16, 2010, the so-called “Howard Hughes” Patek Philippe Ref 1463 sold for a whopping $254,500.

And that is where the story ended.  To this day, Christie’s has not provided me with ANY information or documentation which supports the purported provenance of the “Howard Hughes” Patek Philippe.  Christie’s is, to me, the most disappointing actor in this entire saga.  The power was theirs to stop the auction in the face of an overwhelming case that the Watch Replica ’s provenance was not as it was purported to be.  The onus was on them.  Money and hubris are not easily given up, unfortunately.

If you’ve read this far, I thank you and I hope you’ve enjoyed the report.  Though I had put this series of events well behind me, the FORBES mention brought it vividly roaring back to the present and I felt compelled to recount the story.  My hope is that the purchaser of the “Howard Hughes” Patek Philipe Ref 1463 might one day find my writings here, and the two of us might engage in a delightful conversation on the topic.  For those who want more, I suggest reading my series of blog posts in reverse-chronological order in order to experience the saga as it unfolded on Perpetuelle.  As always I welcome your comments.
