Armin Strom wins the Red Dot Design Award 2017 which pays tribute to outstanding international product design in 31 different categories for the second time.
In 2017, the prize winners were selected by a prestigious jury made up of independent designers, professors and professional journalists. More than 5,500 products from 54 different countries were entered this year.
Discussing of the two equilibrium springs brings us neatly to something known as a resonance clutch spring. It’s the elaborately shaped steel spring that is connected to the balance springs. What it does is that it provides a mechanical connection to both equilibrium springs, allowing power to be transmitted from one to the other as they seek to maintain equilibrium and conquer in tandem. The movement is Armin Strom’s Calibre ARF15, that actually uses two full going trains to attain the rotational effect. It is a hand-wound movement made out of 226 parts and features a fairly good power reserve of 48 hours. Additionally, it oscillates at a fairly unusual rate of 25,200 beats per hour. For mepersonally, the Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance watch is easily Armin Strom’s most intriguing watch, and I find that this new version in stainless steel to be even more desirable than the last. The newest Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Water is limited to 50 pieces and is priced at 54,000 Swiss francs, which makes it a great 13,000 Swiss francs more reasonably priced compared to rose gold model of this past year. There’s always something to be said about a new brand that really masters their craft and Armin Strom continues to show off such art with each new model. If you have been keeping up with releases from Armin Strom this year, you’ve probably had a opportunity to have a look at our very first hands-on with all the Armin Strom Edge watch here. It is a tasteful execution of modern, industrial design blended with conventional finishing methods that cover what you’d expect from authentic high-end watchmaking.
Armin Strom’s Mirrored Force Resonance comprises an innovative, sophisticated mechanism created for the pursuit of precision in a way that has never before been seen in a wristwatch: the eminently visible animated resonance clutch spring that connects two oscillators, the most sensitive part of a watch’s movement.
Never has form followed function in such a compelling and mechanically beautiful way. Professor Dr Peter Zec, Initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Awards, comments: “The Red Dot winners are pursuing the right design strategy. They have recognised the fact that good design goes hand in hand with economic success. The award made by the critical Red Dot jury documents high design quality and points the way forward to a successful styling policy”.
